The thought of having your own Will doesn't have to be daunting

We do not know what is around the corner, but we can be prepared for it if we have the right Will.

Your Will is one of the most important documents that you will ever make. Sometimes the difference between what you want to happen to your money and possessions when you die and what will actually happen can be a very fine line unless you have the appropriate Will.

My role is to understand your personal circumstances, listen to what you would like to happen with your assets when you pass and then throw one or two curve balls at you. If you tell me, “oh I hadn’t thought of that” then I have done my job.

When is it a good time to write a Will?

A lot of people will say any time and they would not be wrong.

I would, however, urge you to consider having a Will drafted on the following occasions:

Will Writing To Suit You

First Home
Your First Home

It is not uncommon nowadays for people to buy their first home before getting married. If you were to die before marrying would you like to ensure that your partner is protected and not necessarily left in fear of losing the home you have both purchased together?

Starting A Family
Starting A Family

We all want to make sure that our children's future is protected should anything happen to us. If you were to die unexpectedly, whilst your children are under 18 would you want to ensure that at least part of your estate is guaranteed to pass to them in the future?

Extended Family
Extended Family

Many modern families include children from previous relationships. You may wish to ensure that not only do your own children inherit from your estate, the children of your partner do too.

Your Will
Receiving Inheritance

By inheriting, perhaps from parents or grandparents, you may find that you have a substantial amount of money/investments and now is the time to consider how you would like your estate to be divided on your death. As they say, with great wealth comes great responsibility.

Marriage
Getting Married

Did you know that your husband/wife/civil partner is not necessarily entitled to inherit your entire estate when you die? A Will needs to be written to ensure that they inherit exactly what you want them to receive.

Divorce
Separation & Divorce

Many people caught up in the emotions of separation do not always think of their Will during this stressful time. Did you know that were you to die before your divorce is finalised, without having made an appropriate Will, your soon to be ex partner will inherit a substantial amount if not all of your estate?

Death Of A Loved One
Death Of A Loved One

Having lost your life partner you may wish to review your Will to consider who will now inherit, this can be especially important if you do not have any children.

LPA
Care Home Fees

More and more people are at risk of needing to sell their home to pay care home fees. Would you like to protect at least 50% of the value of your home from being used for care fees, and therefore giving you the peace of mind knowing that your beneficiaries will inherit something on your death?
